Abstract

The present study provides a comparative analysis of speech acts in Persian language textbooks for non-Persian learners and sentences generated by Artificial intelligence. The data were selectively and purposively collected from dialogues in instructional textbooks, as well as from responses generated by Artificial intelligence to comparable situations and prompts. The collected data were analyzed based on Austin and Searle’s Speech Act Theory and Brown and Levinson’s Politeness Theory. The results indicate that, in some cases, the speech acts presented in the instructional textbooks exhibit greater diversity in pragmatic features, including the degree of imposition, the intensity of face threat, and the selection of politeness strategies. In contrast, the data generated by Artificial intelligence show a greater tendency toward producing standardized utterances, while speech acts involving a higher degree of face threat occur less frequently. The findings of the study indicate that integrating Persian language textbooks with modern artificial intelligence technologies can have a significant impact on improving Persian language instruction for non-Persian learners.
